Daymaniat Shells
Muscat has plenty to offer — beautiful mountains, traditional souqs, impressive mosques, beaches and incredible Omani hospitality. But just a short boat ride from the city, you'll find a completely different world.
The Daymaniat Islands Nature Reserve is one of Oman's most beautiful marine destinations and, in our opinion, one of the best things to do when visiting Muscat.
Think crystal-clear water, colorful coral reefs, sea turtles and a day spent away from the city surrounded by nature.
And the best part? It's much closer than you might think.
Just 40 Minutes from Muscat
You don't need to travel across Oman to experience something extraordinary.
Our trips depart from Al Mouj Marina, Muscat, and after approximately 40 minutes by boat, you arrive at the Daymaniat Islands.
40 minutes by boat. A world away from everything else.
The group of small, uninhabited islands is surrounded by beautiful reefs and clear water, creating one of the most memorable natural experiences within easy reach of Muscat.
It's an ideal addition to a Muscat itinerary, whether you're visiting Oman for a few days or spending a longer holiday here.
Snorkel with Turtles in Their Natural Habitat
For many of our guests, seeing a sea turtle is one of the highlights of their trip to Oman.
The Daymaniat Islands are home to both green turtles and hawksbill turtles, and they can be encountered around the reefs throughout the year.
There's something very different about seeing a turtle in the wild.
You might watch one calmly feeding on the reef, resting below the surface or swimming up for a breath before disappearing back into the blue.
We always remind our guests to give turtles plenty of space and allow them to behave naturally.
We're visitors in their home.
There's Much More Than Turtles
Turtles might be famous at the Daymaniat Islands, but don't forget to look around.
The reefs are home to an incredible variety of marine life.
Depending on the day, you might encounter rays gliding across the seabed, moray eels hiding between the rocks, clownfish protecting their homes, pufferfish, octopus, reef sharks and large schools of colorful fish.
During the warmer season, there is also the possibility of encountering whale sharks in Oman's waters.
Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed — and we wouldn't want it any other way.
Every snorkeling trip is different, and you never quite know what the ocean will show you.
You Don't Need to Be a Scuba Diver
One of the reasons the Daymaniat Islands are such a great activity in Muscat is that you don't need to be a scuba diver to experience their underwater world.
Snorkeling gives you the opportunity to explore the reefs directly from the surface.
On our trips, snorkeling equipment is provided, including a mask, snorkel, fins and lifejacket.
Before entering the water, our crew gives you a briefing and helps you get comfortable with the equipment.
Then it's time to explore.
A Great Escape from the City
Muscat is a beautiful city, but sometimes the best way to appreciate Oman is to leave the road behind.
A morning at the Daymaniat Islands gives you something completely different from sightseeing on land.
No traffic. No shopping centers. No busy schedule.
Just the boat, the sea, the islands and whatever marine life decides to appear that day.
It's a chance to switch off for a few hours and experience another side of Oman.
Visit Throughout the Year
Another great thing about the Daymaniat Islands is that snorkeling isn't limited to just a few months of the year.
We operate snorkeling trips throughout the seasons, although the experience changes during the year.
From 1 May until 31 October, beach access is closed to protect nesting turtles and their nests. During this period, snorkeling continues, but visitors remain on the boat and in the water without landing on the beaches.
From November until April, the beaches reopen and our full-day trips return, giving guests the opportunity to combine snorkeling with time on the beach and a BBQ lunch.
Different season. Different experience. Same beautiful islands.
More Than Just a Boat Trip
For us, visiting the Daymaniat Islands isn't about rushing from one snorkeling spot to another.
These islands are part of a protected nature reserve, and we want guests to leave understanding why they're so special.
Small actions matter.
Giving turtles space, avoiding contact with coral, taking nothing from the islands and leaving nothing behind all help protect this environment for the future.
The goal isn't simply to see the Daymaniat Islands.
It's to experience them responsibly.
📍 Add the Daymaniat Islands to Your Muscat Itinerary
If you're searching for things to do in Muscat, especially if you love nature, wildlife or the ocean, the Daymaniat Islands deserve a place on your list.
You can spend the morning snorkeling and still return to Muscat with plenty of time left in your day — or, during the winter season, choose a full-day adventure and make the islands your destination for the day.
Whether it's your first time snorkeling or you've spent years exploring the ocean, there's always something special about jumping into the water at the Daymaniat Islands.
And sometimes the best memories from Muscat aren't made in the city at all.
They're made 40 minutes offshore.
