Daymaniat Shells

Just a short boat ride from Muscat lies one of Oman's most beautiful marine destinations — the Daymaniat Islands Nature Reserve.

Crystal-clear water, colorful coral reefs, sea turtles, rays and an incredible variety of reef fish make the islands one of the best places for snorkeling in Oman.

But a trip to the Daymaniat Islands is about more than simply getting on a boat and jumping into the water. It's about slowing down, discovering the underwater world and experiencing one of Oman's most special protected marine areas.

Here is what you can expect when joining a Daymaniat Islands snorkeling tour from Muscat with Daymaniat Shells.

Where Are the Daymaniat Islands?

The Daymaniat Islands are a protected group of islands located off the coast of Oman, northwest of Muscat.

Our snorkeling trips depart from Al Mouj Marina, Muscat, and the boat ride to the islands normally takes around 40–50 minutes.

As the city disappears behind you, the scenery quickly changes. Clear blue water, rocky islands and untouched coastline replace Muscat's skyline.

40 minutes by boat. A world away from everything else.

What Can You See While Snorkeling?

No two days at the Daymaniat Islands are exactly the same — and that's one of the things we love most about them.

The islands are home to an incredible variety of marine life. Depending on the day and a little bit of luck, you may encounter:

  • Green and hawksbill sea turtles

  • Rays

  • Moray eels

  • Reef sharks

  • Parrotfish and other colorful reef fish

  • Pufferfish

  • Clownfish

  • Octopus

  • Beautiful coral reefs

During the summer season, there is also the possibility of encountering whale sharks in Oman's waters.

Wildlife encounters can never be guaranteed — and we believe that's exactly how it should be.

These are wild animals in their natural environment. Our job is to help you experience them respectfully.

Snorkeling With Sea Turtles in Oman

For many of our guests, seeing a sea turtle underwater is the moment they remember most.

The Daymaniat Islands are an important habitat for turtles, and it is common to encounter them swimming, resting or feeding around the reefs.

When we find turtles, we give them space.

We don't chase them, touch them or surround them. Our crew explains how to approach marine life responsibly so you can enjoy the encounter without disturbing the animal.

Sometimes the best thing you can do underwater is simply float, watch and let nature come to you.

What Is Included in a Daymaniat Islands Snorkeling Trip?

Our daily half-day snorkeling trips depart from Al Mouj Marina in Muscat.

We visit two snorkeling sites, chosen according to the day's sea conditions, visibility and marine life activity.

Snorkeling equipment is provided, including mask, snorkel, fins and lifejacket. Drinking water, fresh fruit and sandwiches are also included.

Our experienced crew is there throughout the trip to help you feel comfortable and make the most of your time in the water.

You don't need to be an experienced snorkeler to discover the Daymaniat Islands.

Which Snorkeling Sites Will We Visit?

This is a question we often receive, but we don't choose exactly the same snorkeling sites every day.

Conditions at sea change.

Visibility, wind, currents and marine-life activity can all influence where the best snorkeling will be.

Our captains know the Daymaniat Islands extremely well and select the sites according to the conditions on the day.

For us, a good snorkeling trip isn't about following exactly the same route every morning. It's about choosing the best experience the islands can offer that day.

When Is the Best Time to Snorkel the Daymaniat Islands?

Snorkeling at the Daymaniat Islands can be enjoyed throughout the year, with different seasons offering different conditions and experiences.

During the warmer months, the water is warm and marine life is very active. Summer is also associated with whale shark season in Oman.

From May through October, beach access within the nature reserve is restricted to protect nesting wildlife. Snorkeling trips continue during this period, but without beach landings.

From November through April, beach access is permitted again and seasonal full-day snorkeling experiences become possible.

There isn't really one single "perfect" month.

The Daymaniat Islands change throughout the year — and that's part of their beauty.

Choosing a Daymaniat Islands Snorkeling Tour

There are many ways to visit the Daymaniat Islands, and price is naturally one of the things travelers compare.

But we recommend looking beyond price alone.

Consider the experience of the crew, safety standards, group experience, quality of equipment, environmental practices and how the operator interacts with wildlife.

The Daymaniat Islands are a protected nature reserve. Every visitor and every operator has a responsibility to help keep them that way.

At Daymaniat Shells, protecting the marine environment isn't something we add to a trip description.

It's part of how we operate.

Why Daymaniat Shells?

Daymaniat Shells has been taking guests to explore Oman's waters since 2016.

Over the years, we've watched thousands of guests experience their first sea turtle encounter, discover a coral reef for the first time and return to the marina with stories they'll remember long after their holiday in Oman.

Our approach is simple.

We want you to feel safe, comfortable and welcome — while experiencing the Daymaniat Islands in a way that respects the place we're fortunate enough to visit every day.

We use reusable drinking bottles instead of single-use plastic, brief our guests about responsible wildlife encounters and continually work to reduce our impact on the marine environment.

For us, the Daymaniat Islands aren't simply another tourist attraction.

The Daymaniat Islands are more than just a destination to us — they’re a place we genuinely care about.
